First H1N1 virus confirmed at Clover Ridge Elementary School
District 112 has been informed that a case of Influenza A, H1N1, has been confirmed by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH). The student attends Clover Ridge Elementary School and was in class last week, the final week of the school year. "We have no reason to be over-concerned about the diagnosis," said Superintendent David Jennings. "We just want to pass the information along in the interest of prevention."
If your child shows the following symptoms, MDH asks that you keep him/her home, away from groups of people. The symptoms are:
- Fever of 100 degrees or higher
- Cough
- Sore throat
- Stuffy nose
- In some cases, diarrhea and vomiting
District 112 joins the MDH in recommending the following preventative measures:
- Wash hands frequently. The best defense against illness is frequent hand washing with soap or alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Avoid touching eyes, nose or mouth with your hands to reduce the possibility of spreading germs.
- Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or shirt-sleeve.
- Practice good health habits. Get plenty of sleep, be physically active, drink fluids and eat nutritious food.
